About Becky

I’m really just a girl trying to cultivate a good life and help others in their quest to do the same. My 25-year career in documenting includes more teaching than I can quantify in the form of in-person classes, online classes, published articles and books, blog posts, social media, and our podcast, Cultivate a Good Life. I’m a passionate entrepreneur, hiking enthusiast, and a big fan of organization … but more importantly, I’m a wife, mother to 3, and friend to many.

After reviewing everything else here on the course page AND checking out some of these points, you might have a better sense of whether or not this is something that feels right for you right now

  • WHO — This mini course is for anyone interested in being the literal author of their own story. No prior experience of any kind is required.

  • WHAT — This is an approach to documenting with a focus on more words and fewer pictures most of the time. We get to the heart of documenting from your HEART with an emphasis on your thoughts, experiences, and personal growth. This is less about other people and more about you and your view of the world.

  • WHEN — Once you have your seat in the mini course you can go through the content ANYtime and completely at your own pace … but if you ask me, there’s no time like the present! You can get through the entire mini course in about 1.5 hours!

  • WHERE — As long as you have an internet connection to log into the classroom, you can be anywhere you’d like to be as you go through the audio + video content.

  • WHY — You are likely missing from the documenting that you’re doing … or maybe you’re not documenting at all (yet). Perhaps you focus on kids or trips. But what about YOU? You, the person … the unique human being with unique experiences, challenges, triumphs, and perspective. Yes, you. It’s time. No one is more equipped to tell your stories than you.

Testimonials

  • “This mini course changed the entire direction and focus of my documenting and uplifted the whole of 2020. Becky teaches with warmth, grace, and skill in an easy to understand way so that you, the student, feel competent and inspired to begin the process. I never enjoyed writing, I am not a journal keeper; however, I proudly created 62 pages so far and I’m just scratching the surface!”
    —Courtney

  • “My Modern Story has encouraged me to document more about my own life, my values, my memories, and what I want my children to have for years to come. I love that the course and the movement are helping me with a tangible way to document me and my stories. It’s teaching me the value of expressing and recording what’s inside my heart.”
    —Laura

  • “My Modern Story has allowed my voice to be heard. I was always afraid I didn’t have the words or the skill to be able to document my story. I love that I’m learning to let go of the fear and embrace the parts of me and my life that I want my children and my grandchildren to know about. Things that before I would have thought no one was interested in, I now think are what makes me, ME. Thank you!”
    —Julie
